Moulding Techniques For Plastic Containers

Plastic containers are normally manufactured a moulding process. There are two types of moulding processes that are commonly used in this type of manufacturing. The first and most popular is an injection moulding technique. Injection moulding is popular as it can create plastic containers of different sizes, weights and thickness. A mould is simply created in the shape of the plastic container that is required and then heated or molten plastic is injected into the mould. The plastic is then cooled leaving you with desired end product.

The second manufacturing process is blow moulding for plastic containers. This is the ideal method to create hollow plastic items such as containers. In the same way as injection the injection technique a mould first needs to be created of the shape and size of plastic container required. Next the plastic is heated until it is flexible but not molten. The plastic is then stretched and pulled around the mould by blowing air onto the plastic. The cooling process involved in blow moulding for plastic containers is therefore much faster than with injection moulding providing you with a much faster turnover rate.

However, blow moulding is much more suitable to the manufacture of smaller plastic containers. With injection moulding, larger products can be designed and created. Injection moulding can also control the thickness and therefore the solidity of the end product better than blow moulding. It is important to be aware of the types of plastic containers that can be created using these two moulding techniques before choosing the one that will be most suitable to meet your requirements. Keep in mind that both these processes are suitable for bulk or smaller orders for plastic containers.
